The 13U Cobras Finish Runners Up at the Perfect Game Super25 Midwest Qualifier at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana

The 13U Cobras went 5-1 over the weekend at the Perfect Game Super25 Midwest Qualifier at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.  The tournament featured many of the top teams from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois & Missouri.

The 13U Cobras went 5-1 over the weekend at the Perfect Game Super25 Midwest Qualifier at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.  The tournament featured many of the top teams from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois & Missouri.

The 13U Cobras finished 2-0 in pool play beating the #5 nationally ranked Motor City Hit Dogs (MI) 2-1 in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 7th, and the Northern Stars (IN) 11-2 earning them a #2 seed in bracket play.  Paxton Schwandt (4inn) & Jake Miller (3inn) pitched in the win over the Hit Dogs, and Peyton Weiss (4inn) picked up the win over the Northern Stars.

In the first bracket play game, the 13U Cobras would beat the SI Prospects (IL) 18-6 advancing them to the Quarter-Final in a matchup against the nationally Indiana Bulls Black team.  Jack Brown threw 2inn & Jacob Denney threw 2inn in relief picking up the win.  Against the Bulls Black, the Bulls would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the bats would stay hot as the 13U Cobras score 14 runs grabbing a 14-2 win and advancing to the semi-finals against the South Oakland A's (MI) team.  Jake Miller threw 4inn grabbing the win.  In the semi-final, the A's jumped out to a 2-0 lead threw 3inn, but the bats got hot in the 4th inning to come from behind & win 11-2.  Gavin Henry would get the win on the mound throwing 5inn.  In the finals, the 13U Cobras would match up against the Ironmen Prime, the Nations #1 ranked team.  The bats started out hot & took a 5-0 lead after the 1st inning, but the offense wasn't strong enough as the 13 Cobras would end up losing to the Prime to finish runners-up.

Top performers on the mound over the weekend were Jake Miller going 2-0 throwing 7 total innings & striking out 12 batters; Peyton Weiss going 1-0 in 4inn of work striking out 6 batters; Gavin Henry going 1-0 in 5inn & striking out 5.  Top offensive performers over the weekend were Gavin Henry (11/16 at the plate hitting .688BA including 2 triples & 12 RBIs); Jacob Denney (5/7 at the plate hitting .714); Matt Wolfe (9/16 at the plate hitting .563 including 5 triples & 12RBIs).  Also contributing at the plate was Jake Miller (8/16 at the plate hitting .500); Paxton Schwandt (7/15 hitting .467 including 4 triples & HR); Braydon Chilcote (5/11 hitting .455).  Overall, the team hit an impressive .457 over the weekend!

The 13U Cobras will be off until June 15th were they will play up an age group & compete in the 14U Worthington Wood Bat Tournament in Newark, Ohio at Don Edwards Field.

The 13U Cobras went 3-1 over the weekend at the Ohio Valley Perfect Game Super25 Qualifier at Elizabethtown

The 13U Cobras went 3-1 over the weekend at the Ohio Valley Perfect Game Super25 Qualifier at Elizabethtown Sports Park in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  The tournament featured many of the top teams from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. The 13U Cobras finished 3-0 in pool play beating the Elite Baseball Training (IL) 4-3, Kentucky Baseball Club (Peck) 5-2 and the Indiana Baseball Club 7-4.

 

In the Quarter-Final, the 13U Cobras would be upset 7-10 after taking a 7-6 lead into the top of the 7th inning by the Ironmen (KY).

Top performers on the mound over the weekend were Jake Miller (picking up the Win in relief in the first Pool Play game while striking out all 3 batters he faced). Jacob Denney (pitched 6inn in relief to pick up the win in the second Pool Play game while striking out 8 & allowing 0 runs), and Jackson Brown (pitched a complete game to pick up the win in the final Pool Play game while striking out 9 hitters).  Top offensive performers over the weekend were Matt Wolfe (.500BA & 6 hits) & Jake Miller (.500BA, 5 hits, including 1HR & 6 RBIs).

The 13U Cobras will continue to see great competition this upcoming weekend, as they will be in Columbus at Berliner Park playing in a 24 team deep 7UP Cup tournament that will showcase Beaver Valley, Columbus Sharks & Ohio Elite.

13U Columbus Cobras Advance to their Third Straight Championship Game, but Fall Short to the Motor City Hit Dogs to Finish Runner Up at TbS Ohio Major Elite

The 13U Cobras went 4-1 over the weekend, finishing in 2nd place at the TravelBaseball Select Ohio Major Elite Tournament at Carter Park in Bowling Green, Ohio.  The tournament featured many of the top teams from Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. The 13U Cobras finished 2-0 in pool play beating the Black Swamp Monsters 13-3 & the Ohio Heat 13-5.  Paxton Schwandt and Tyler Lumbard picked up the win in the pool play games.

Down early 4-0 in the first bracket play game against the Illinois Edge (2016 Gatorade Gameday USA National Champions), the 13U Cobras would chip away to take a 7-6 lead in the 6th inning and hold on for the win.  Matt Wolfe picked up the win & Jake Miller closed out the 7th inning.  In the semi-final, the 13U Cobras would be matched up against the nationally ranked Saginaw Bay Riverdawgs (MI).  Jake Miller threw a complete game gem & Peyton Weiss hit a 2-RBI double in the top of the 7th to prevail over the Riverdawgs 3-1 advancing the 13U Cobras to their third championship game in as many tournaments so far this season.

In the finals, it would be a battle of the pitchers; however, a very good Motor City Hit Dogs (MI) took advantage of some Cobras mistakes to score 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and hold on for a 3-1 win.

Overall, the 13U Cobras extend their record to 13-1, and will be in Cincinnati this weekend at the Ohio Valley Classic Invite.

13U Columbus Cobras Win Second Tournament Playing Up at Full-Tilt 14U Pre-Season Tournament

The 13U Cobras went 3-0 over the weekend, winning the Full-Tilt 14U Pre-Season Tournament held at Home Run Park in Kenton, OH.  The Cobras outscored their opponents 27-8 in their three bracket play games.  Picking up wins on the mound over the weekend were Tyler Lumbard (pitching a 1-hit 6-0 shutout over the South Farmington Blues 14U out of Michigan), Jake Miller (in relief of Peyton Weiss that included a dominant 2 2/3 innings where he struck out 7/8 batters he faced in a 12-3 come-from-behind win over Full-Tilt 14U) & Matt Wolfe (where he pitched 4 innings of 1-hit shutout baseball in a 9-5 win over the Macomb Muckdogs Baseball Academy 14U out of Michigan).  At the plate, Peyton Weiss led the offensive attack with 6 hits, 2 doubles & a .857 average while driving in 4 runs.  Kaleb Schaffer supported the attack hitting .657 over the weekend while driving in 3 runs.  Matt Wolfe & Braydon Chilcote had 4 hits each. Paxton Schwandt swiped 11 bases & scored 7 runs.  The 13U team will play two weekday games this week on Tuesday at Upper Arlington and Thursday against the Midwest Prospects.

Columbus Cobras 13U Open Up Season Winning USSSA King of Swing

The 13U Cobras went 5-0 over the weekend, winning the USSSA King of Swing at Berliner Park in Columbus, OH.  The Cobras outscored their opponents 32-5 in their three bracket play games.  Picking up wins on the mound over the weekend was Paxton Schwandt, Braydon Chilcote, Tyler Lumbard, Jake Miller & Matt Wolfe.  At the plate, Matt Wolfe led the team hitting .750 over the weekend while driving in 9 runs.  Matt also had 5 extra base hits, including 2 doubles, 3 triples and a HR.  Peyton Weiss led the way in driving in 10 runs and hit 4 doubles while hitting .357.  Schwandt hit .667 over the weekend with 11 stolen bases & scoring 10 runs.  Overall, the team collected 46 hits & hit an impressive .380 clip while scoring a total of 55 runs.  The 13U team will play up in a 14U Round Robin Tournament this upcoming weekend on April 8th in Findlay, OH at Marathon Diamonds.
